Description |
A: Electrostatic generator. Mahogany base with lacquered brass hardware, 10-in. glass plate is held in generator with brass and wooden supports, and hand crank. (Ivory?) plate on front of generator identifies maker and place of origin. B: Glass Leyden jar. Glass jar with wooden lid and brass handle. Metal foil lines the inside of the jar and stops below the mouth of the jar. Inside the jar, the rod electrode ends with metal chain. Wooden lid is secured to jar. C: Glass Leyden jar. Glass jar with wooden lid and brass handle. Metal foil lines inside of jar in diamond-shaped pattern and stops below the mouth of the jar. Inside the jar, the rod electrode ends with metal chain. Wooden lid is not secure to jar. D: Drum. Cardboard drum with black wire wound around the outside of the drum. E: Fork-shaped brass conductor for generator. F: Small brass pin. Pin is designed to fit into brass conductor for generator. G: Discharging tongs. Arched brass rods with two small spheres at the end. Tongs have wooden handle. H: Brass screw. I: Brass screw. J: Brass stand accessory. K: Black silk cloth. L: Additional Leyden Jar lid with chain. M: Painted wood carrying case with metal handle bars on each side of case. Inside, case has three small compartments along top of case for Leyden jars, drum, stand, silk, and accessory. Inside door of case has mounts to hold conductor, screws, pin, and tongs. |
