Description |
Serial Number (Bodensee Database): 234. Notes from Bodensee Database: Coleman's first catalog item, 1935-1938. A: Main Instrument/Box Rectangular wooden box with a leather handle attached to lid with two metallic fasteners; top is secured with a metallic latch on front of box; lid opens to reveal operating instructions attached to its top; surface of box has a black metal panel screwed into wooden base of box; panel has four black plastic dials/knobs; two metallic switches, a circular pH meter gauge in the top left, and four raised metallic cylinders with removable black plastic tops to secure electrodes; panel itself has engraved text identifying each dial/knob; to the left of the main black panel is a hollow area that extends to the bottom of the box; area has a black metallic bracket to house a bottle (see description for B); also attached to outer box within the area is a metallic (brass?) bracket to house two attached beakers; left side of the box can be opened to reveal hollow area; box is supported by black plastic stoppers on each corner. B: Bottle of Coleman KCl Solution Rectangular transparent glass container; screwable lid is made of black plastic; sticker on front of the bottle identifies contents and maker. C: Electrode Circular thin glass rod with a rubber top; a circular black plastic object extends from top and provides support for a black rubber-coated wire; end of wire has metallic extensions. D: Solution Storage Container(?) Circular glass beaker (bottom of which is cracked and missing); top of beaker has a black plastic top with a circular opening; opening is plugged with an orange rubber stopper with a black-coated wire emanating from the stopper; end of wire has metallic extensions; a piece of black wire is detached from object. |
