Description |
Hand painted postcard. Front: Postcard featuring a hand-drawn illustrated depiction of the Signal Corps Dirigible No. 1 designed by pioneer balloonist and U.S. Army major Thomas Scott Baldwin (1854-1923) for the United States Army. First flown on August 5, 1908, Baldwin's airship was the first powered aircraft ordered for the Signal Corps by the Aeronautical Division of the United States Army. This postcard is part of a set originally collected in a scrapbook entitled Album Gravures et Cartes-Postales: Vieux Paris Types Petits Métiers et Cris De La Rue (1909). Verso: Addressed to (stamped): "Monsieur Louis DASPET / 177, Rue Saint-Honore, 177 / PARIS" |
