Description |
Dual portrait of Joseph Priestley (upper) and Antoine Lavoisier (lower). Engraving sheet titled, "Chemical Philosophers of the Present Day." Both figures appear bust-length in oval frames. Priestley is framed by an eagle, Lavoisier by laurels. The original portraits were painted by John Opie, and engraved and etched by James Caldwall. Published in London, May 1, 1801, by Dr. Robert John Thornton. |
