Glassware Catalysts--Experiments Catalysis--Experiments Mercury |
Provenance |
Dr. Melton had it constructed by the glassblower at the University of Texas at Dallas circa 1974. It was used in an undergraduate lab for the demonstration of the specific area of a catalyst. The bottom reservoir was filled with mercury, and as the mercury was forced out of the reservoir, the gas in the catalyst chamber was compressed in known steps. When the lab curriculum changed and the apparatus was taken down, Dr. Melton kept it in appreciation of its intricate beauty. |
