Description |
Color lithograph reproduces a watercolor portrait caricature of Sir John Bennet Lawes, (28 December 1814 – 31 August 1900), an English entrepreneur and agricultural scientist. Lawes developed a superphosphate that would mark the beginnings of the chemical fertilizer industry. Originally published in Vanity Fair on July 8, 1882. Lawes appears as a bearded man in a light tan suit, holding a long-handled garden spade. |
