Description |
At center, a surgeon in a blue cap kneels to tend to the foot of his elderly patient. He may be bleeding his patient with leeches, a common sight in images of doctors' surgeries. The patient's wife looks on with concern. Earthenware jars holding medicines and oils are arranged on the floor, along with small tools for cutting, and copper basins. At right, the surgeon's young apprentice works over a small three-legged pot. In the background, a figure tends a glowing fire. |
