Description |
"The Alchemist in His Laboratory" Attributed to David Teniers II Left, a bearded Alchemist and his young assistant stand at a furnace. The alchemist has a purse and keys at his side, and holds a bellows to the fire. Floor is scattered with glassware, manuscripts, and crucibles. Right foreground, a cat looking at viewer emerges from under table. Background, three assistants gathered around a small table. One man with a mortar and pestle, another holding a vial. Behind the men, a large distillation apparatus sitting on a fire. Right, fence with an owl perched on it. Pinned to fence is a paper with portrait of a man, inscribed 1649, and Teniers' monogram, a T within a D. |
