As Ginny explained, our father Nicholas Gehshan was a research chemist at Rohm & Haas in the 1950's and 60's. At that time he worked on the development of all sorts of new materials and he sometimes brought home samples for us to try. That is how we got the plastic cups -- they turned out to be very sturdy! I also remember when Rohm & Haas was trying to develop liquid laundry soap. My father had my mother do a load of wash using "Triton" -- a clear liquid detergent that they were working on. (At that time, laundry detergent was a white powder and you had to use hot water to dissolve it). No one could believe you could get wash clean using cold water but it worked. |
