"Crachez en l'air ça vous retombera sur le nez" [Spit into the wind and your nose will get wet] Series Title: La Caricature (Journal) No. 63 "Lith. De Delaporte S.r de Langlumé," lithographer "On s'abonne chez Aubert, galerie Véro Dodat." France Publsihed in the newspaper La Caricature 9 June 1831 as No. 32, and as gallery edition No 63 on heavy paper, probably that same month/year? Lobau, in the uniform of a commander of the National Guard, is astride a sheep, an allusion to his given name George Mouton in French is "sheep." The caricature references Marshall George Mouton, Count Lobau's unpopular, publicly criticized, use of fire hoses to break up riots beginning in May 1831. |
